Reflection

We chose our poem together after considering a few options, settling for "Warming Her Pearls" because of its numerous elements which allowed rich analysis to illuminate how Duffy portrays the unconventional relationship between maid and mistress. Due to there being several paths to explore, dividing the analysis came mainly down to personal interests. Imogen Grandon-White wrote an introductory section giving us an overview of the whole poem, Gee Jones covered the contextual details, focusing on the poet, Carol Ann Duffy, Sam Davidson looked into the form and language, with Cara Ludlow discussed symbolism and Emily Wolley explored imagery. Our decision to create a blog came after brainstorming modern, digital formats that will hopefully lend itself to increasing interest in poetry, as well as allowing everyone to access our work. In addition, we thought that hearing a poem read out loud can really enhance understanding, we thus decided to include a recording.
